IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration closes early for in-person sessions. You may register for an online session until the day that class starts. There will be no on-site event registration.
- LIVE In-Person Sessions – In-Person classes will be held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Coffee will be available by 7:30am and lunch will be provided on-site. You do not need to check-in at the event, but a registration desk will be available for questions. Sign-in rosters will be passed around in the classroom for documenting attendance (which is mandatory to receive a certificate). Plus you’ll have the opportunity to visit our Exhibitor Showcase during breaks and lunch.

2024 IBC Update and Significant Changes
Reviews the changes from the last edition to the current edition of the International Building Code. The background behind many of the changes will be discussed to provide the participants with an understanding of the intent of the changes and how to apply it to their everyday work. Subjects covered in the class will include the code change process, mixed occupancies, atriums, accessible means of egress and many more.

2024 IBC Height, Area, & Mixed Occupancies
Comprehensive discussion of the major compartmentalization concepts of the International Building Code, focusing on those requirements that deal with building size, sprinkler options and mixed-use buildings. Fire-resistance-rated construction is also addressed. This class will include topics on allowable areas, area increases, unlimited area buildings, fire area concept and construction, incidental/accessory use areas and separated/non-separated uses.

2024 IBC Advanced Means of Egress
An advanced look at the means of egress requirements included in Chapter 10 of the 2024 International Building Code (IBC). The presentation will include detailed discussions on the design and review of the means of egress in unusual occupancies. Subjects included in the class are malls, assembly occupancies, special egress components, smoke proof enclosures, horizontal exits and exit passageways. Practical examples will be used to illustrate code requirements. This class is designed for those students that have a basic understanding of how the means of egress is designed and reviewed.

Special Occupancies and Operations for the IFC: Plan Review Considerations
Participants will be able to identify unique plan review and inspection considerations for the Special Occupancies and Operations in Chapter 4 of the IBC and the correlating information in the IFC Chapters 20-39. These occupancies include Motor Fuel Dispensing and Repair Garages, Flammable Finishes, Semi-conductor Fabrication Facilities, Tire Rebuilding and storage, LPG, Children’s Play Structures, Aviation Facilities, Lumberyards and Woodworking Facilities, & High Piled Storage.

New technology behind some of the code changes will be introduced.

2024 IFC Chapter 12: Energy Systems and Lithium Battery Safety and Code
This full day course provides a detailed examination of Chapter 12 – Energy Systems of the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC), focusing on fire and life safety requirements for modern energy technologies including Lithium Batteries. Participants will gain a working knowledge of how the IFC regulates energy generation, storage, and distribution systems in both new and existing buildings. Covered systems include energy storage systems (ESS), fuel cells, solar photovoltaic systems, generators, hydrogen systems, and other emerging energy technologies addressed in Chapter 12. The course explores system classification, installation requirements, fire-resistance ratings, location and separation criteria, ventilation, monitoring, signage, emergency disconnects, and coordination with other applicable codes and standards. Emphasis is placed on practical application for plan review and inspections, identifying common compliance issues, and understanding how Chapter 12 integrates with the International Building Code (IBC), International Electrical Code references, and referenced standards.

Wood Framing – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 2.0
This course will cover many aspects (Good, Bad and the Ugly) of Wood Framing construction for floors, walls and roof-ceiling construction. The participants will have many opportunities to review code language, along with some reference standards, needed to evaluate structural integrity and determine the intent of the code. Participants will view many illustrations used for open discussions. This course will be of interest to contractors, building inspectors, plan reviewers, and professional designers. Please bring your IRC code book, pencil, calculators, and paper.

The Base – Soils, Footings and Foundations (Chapter 4 of the IRC)
This course will help establish a base for understanding and inspecting the construction aspects concerning soils, footings, and foundations. 2024 IRC Significant Changes
This is a focused course designed to help builders, inspectors, designers, and code officials quickly understand what has changed between the 2021 and 2024 editions of the IRC and how those changes affect residential construction (including Building, MEP, and Energy). This course highlights the most critical revisions, new requirements, and deleted provisions across the code—including building planning, fire safety, structural systems, energy efficiency, mechanical and electrical systems, and plumbing updates. Major Changes in the 2026 NEC
In this class, we will take a look at some of the major changes that are anticipated to occur with the 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC). The 2026 NEC is set to be published in August of 2025. You can be among the first to hear about some of the more significant changes that are currently in the Code revision process set to make their debut later this year. Some of the changes we will look at will be: new articles for the 2026 NEC Code-wide change, new GFCI requirements, advancements in dc circuits and equipment, proper identification means for grounded conductors, updated PV requirements, and much, much more. This program has been developed for those who are involved in the design, installation and inspection of electrical systems in new and existing electrical installations.
