Our Central Texas BPI is a three day program offering continuing education sessions in the areas of: Building Code, Residential Code, Fire Code, Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code, Electrical Code, Energy Code, Certified Building Official Exam Prep, Code Enforcement, Permit Technician, Texas Accessibility Standards/Academy, and various Special Topics.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration closes several days before the event for in-person sessions. You may register for an online session until the day that class starts. There will be no on-site event registration.

  • LIVE In-Person Sessions – In-Person classes will be held at the Hilton Austin Airport in Austin, Texas. Coffee will be available by 7:30am and lunch will be provided on-site. You do not need to check-in at the event, but a registration desk will be available for questions. Sign-in rosters will be passed around in the classroom for documenting attendance (which is mandatory to receive a certificate). Plus you’ll have the opportunity to visit our Exhibitor Showcase during breaks and lunch.
  • LIVE Online Streaming Sessions – Live virtual courses via ZOOM. Log-in instructions will be emailed upon registration, along with reminder emails 1 week prior and 1 day prior. If you do not receive email instructions, please call 903-390-6665 or email central@bpi-tx.com prior to the event. Make sure to have ZOOM installed and tested. The JOIN link will be available 30 minutes prior to class starting. Online time is monitored to receive a certificate.

2024 IBC (International Building Code) Update and Significant Changes
Reviews the changes from the last edition to the current edition of the International Building Code. The background behind many of the changes will be discussed to provide the participants with an understanding of the intent of the changes and how to apply it to their everyday work. Subjects covered in the class will include the code change process, mixed occupancies, atriums, accessible means of egress and many more.

This session will include discussion of the changes to the 2024 IWUIC and review the code. Discussion will include wildland fire prevention techniques, challenges and alternatives to adopting the Code and examples of WUI development and plan review.

2021 IRC “The Backbone” Building & Planning Basics (Chapter 3)
This full day session will cover IRC Chapter 3, Building Planning, sets up a compilation of code requirements that are specific to the building planning sector of the design and construction process. The provisions address a wide variety of issues important to designing a building that is both safe and usable. Without a broad workable knowledge of this chapter, it will be impossible to construct one- & two-family dwelling units and Townhomes. This course is applicable to all aspects of the design, construction, regulatory community, including contractors and design professionals.

Wood Framing – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 2.0
This course will cover many aspects (Good, Bad and the Ugly) of Wood Framing construction for floors, walls and roof-ceiling construction. The participants will have many opportunities to review code language, along with some reference standards, needed to evaluate structural integrity and determine the intent of the code. Participants will view many illustrations used for open discussions. This course will be of interest to contractors, building inspectors, plan reviewers, and professional designers. Please bring your IRC code book, pencil, calculators, and paper.

The class is designed to provide an introduction to the provision of the code. We will explore the major components of International Residential Code. Major Changes in the 2026 NEC (National Electrical Code)
In this class, we will take a look at some of the major changes that are anticipated to occur with the 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC). The 2026 NEC is set to be published in August of 2025. You can be among the first to hear about some of the more significant changes that are currently in the Code revision process set to make their debut later this year. Some of the changes we will look at will be: new articles for the 2026 NEC, Code-wide change, new GFCI requirements, advancements in dc circuits and equipment, proper identification means for grounded conductors, updated PV requirements, and much, much more.

1 & 2 Family Dwelling Electrical Requirements
This comprehensive course explains installation, design, and inspection of electrical systems in new and existing one- and two-family dwellings, using clear, concise language, with numerous pictures and illustrations. This seminar is based on IAEI’s book entitled One- and Two-Family Dwelling Electrical Systems, that includes the electrical requirements of both the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the International Residential Code (IRC). This presentation is particularly helpful and valuable for inspectors, contractors, electricians, and students in making more accurate, thorough, and safer installations and inspections.

NEC Common Electrical Code Calculations
This program has been developed for those who are involved in the design, installation and inspection of electrical systems in new and existing electrical installations. Everyday common Code calculations are covered in great detail as they pertain to the overall application of the National Electrical Code (NEC). This course is a must for installers and inspectors alike or anyone who needs to enhance their general understanding of common Code calculations that we sometimes take for granted. Some of the subjects covered are box fill calculations, sizing pull and junction boxes, raceway fill, and properly calculating the minimum size of grounding electrode conductors, equipment grounding conductors, and grounded circuit conductors. This seminar is particularly helpful and valuable for inspectors, contractors, electricians, and students. This seminar will assist attendees in learning to make more accurate, thorough, and safe installations and inspections of electrical installations and all installations.

Understanding Texas Accessibility Requirements (4 Hr.)
This course is an overview of TDLR, the state statute and rules, comparison of the Federal ADA and standards applicable to the design, construction, and alteration of building/facilities. This course is also an overview of the 2012 TAS applied to common situations encountered in real life. This course can be used for the one hour of self-reported barrier free AIA CEU requirements for Architects and 4 hours of RAS CEUs. Non-RAS are welcome.

IWUIC Code and Fire-Resistant Treated Wood (FRTW)
This session is a discussion of fire-retardant-treated wood (FRTW), its technical characteristics, and its code-related applications, with an emphasis on those applications in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). Topics include: FRTW testing, listing, and labeling requirements; how FRTW compares to other building materials such as steel, concrete, and painted/coated wood products, and code-approved FRTW interior and exterior applications, including those in the International Wildland Urban Interface Code as well as relevant National Fire Protection Association Standards.

Post Tension (PT) and Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Rebar (GFRP) in Structural, Non-structural and Residential Slab-on-grade Foundations
This session will include three shorter sessions:

  • The first being the use of GFRP in Structural and Non-Structural Building Elements in conformance with ACI Code 220.11-22 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete with GFRP. This will cover the basic design requirements, construction documentation, field testing, inspections and case studies.

  • The second, will be Post-Tensioned Structural Concrete Code (ACI320-25) providing details on significant evolution and advancement in the design of PT concrete structures and highlighting noteworthy changes from previous codes.

  • The third, will be the impact of the 2024 IRC Changes to Residential Post Tension Slab-on Grade Design. This session will provide information on design, materials, installation of PT concrete slab-on-grade including those on expansive and stable soils in accordance with PTI DC 10.5.

Modular Construction in your Community
This half-day session will provide for TDLR’s Industrialized Housing and Building (IHB) department to discuss what the local building official should know and do when a modular building or home arrives in their community. IHB Specialists clarify the information and documents you should get, propose questions you should ask, and identify the players involved. The session will also review the authority, role, and responsibilities of the municipal authority, and discuss what happens when a modular installation is outside the jurisdiction of a city or inside a city with no building inspection department.
