Now you can earn continuing education hours anytime, anywhere! BPI, in conjunction with Utah State University, offers a new 3-hour online training course. In this course, instructor Russell Thornburg presents an in-depth view of code requirements for Means of Egress of the 2018 IRC. Course is applicable to designers, contractors, framers, and building inspectors.
The concepts outlined in this course provide a basis for the correct use of the code for stairways, landings, guards, and handrails, etc… Illustrations used represent everyday problems and will serve as the basis for discussion and resolution to some of the problems related to Means of Egress.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be better able to:
- Discuss critical concepts of the 2018 IRC regarding Means of Egress and its life safety issues of stairways, landings, guards, and handrails, etc…
- Apply building safety concepts in building planning with regards to Means of Egress in relation to other building safety provisions.
- Discuss the provisions concerning residential design, plan review and inspection decisions necessary to ensure safe residential buildings in compliance with the IRC.
How the Registration Process Works
STEP 1
Complete the registration form below to register and pay for this online course through BPI/BOAT via Paypal (or credit card).
STEP 2
Once BPI/BOAT confirms payment, a link will be emailed to continue the course registration through Utah State University. This registration will give you access to their CANVAS online learning platform. Please make sure your email system does not block this or put it in the junk/spam folder. Registration Steps 1 and 2 must be completed to access this course!
STEP 3
Once you have access to CANVAS and the course video, you can start your training. This online course is broken up into two video segments. You can start/stop each video as often as needed. At the end of each video segment, you will be prompted to take a quiz. To continue to the next segment and/or pass the course, you must score an 80. You are allowed 3 attempts to pass each video segment.
STEP 4
Once you’ve completed the course and passed the quiz, Utah State University will verify the 3 contact hours (.3 ICC CEUs) and BPI will send you a certificate of completion.
